Maharashtra is taking a major step toward becoming India’s leading Artificial Intelligence hub with the launch of its ambitious AI Policy 2026. The state government plans to establish six AI Centres of Excellence, deploy 2,000 GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), and create a large-scale AI ecosystem aimed at attracting investments, generating jobs, and accelerating technological innovation. The initiative is part of Maharashtra’s broader vision to position itself at the forefront of India’s digital transformation journey.

Maharashtra Targets ₹10,000 Crore AI Investment

Under the AI Policy 2026, Maharashtra aims to attract more than ₹10,000 crore in investments by 2030-31 while generating over 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs across AI and AI-enabled sectors. The policy focuses on building strong digital infrastructure, promoting innovation, and encouraging responsible AI adoption across industries and government services.

The government believes Artificial Intelligence will play a critical role in transforming:

  • Governance

  • Healthcare

  • Agriculture

The government aims to support at least one AI unicorn emerging from Maharashtra’s startup ecosystem.

Skill Development for Future Workforce

Maharashtra plans to train approximately two lakh youth and professionals in:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Data Science

  • Cloud Computing

  • Emerging Technologies

The initiative aims to prepare the workforce for future employment opportunities created by the rapidly expanding AI sector.
