Maharashtra’s infrastructure expansion continues to gain momentum as a major stretch of the Nashik–Pune Highway is set to be widened from six lanes to ten lanes. The massive road upgrade aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and prepare Nashik for the upcoming 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The project has received approval from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and will be executed by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nashik–Pune Highway Stretch to Be Expanded to 10 Lanes.
Key Stretch to Be Upgraded Nashik–Pune Highway Stretch to Be Expanded to 10 Lanes
The widening project will focus on the busy Dwarka–Datta Mandir stretch of the Nashik–Pune Highway, covering approximately 6.4 kilometres. This corridor is considered one of Nashik’s most congested traffic zones due to heavy movement toward:
Pune
Shirdi
Sinnar industrial belt
Nashik city areas
The route handles a massive mix of local, commercial, and intercity traffic daily, creating long-standing congestion issues.
10-Lane Expansion to Improve Traffic Flow
Under the new infrastructure plan:
✅ The existing six-lane road will expand to ten lanes
✅ Service roads will be added on both sides
✅ New footpaths will improve pedestrian safety
✅ Road width will increase from 25 metres to 45 metres
Authorities believe the upgraded highway will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks across the corridor.
Project Linked to Kumbh Mela Preparations
One of the major reasons for fast-tracking the project is the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik.
The highway upgrade is expected to:
Handle massive pilgrim traffic
Improve city entry routes
Enhance transportation efficiency
Reduce travel delays during peak movement periods
Officials have reportedly targeted project completion within one year once construction begins.
Infrastructure Growth Boosting Nashik
The highway expansion reflects Maharashtra’s larger push toward infrastructure-led growth across emerging cities.
Several major projects are already reshaping connectivity in and around Nashik, including:
Samruddhi Mahamarg
Highway upgrades
Industrial corridor development
Logistics infrastructure
Regional road expansions
Improved connectivity is expected to support:
📈 Real estate growth
🏭 Industrial activity
🚚 Logistics efficiency
🏨 Tourism development
🏗️ Urban expansion
Real Estate and Industrial Corridors May Benefit
Infrastructure experts believe improved road connectivity between Nashik and Pune could positively impact:
Industrial investments
Warehouse and logistics sectors
Residential demand
Commercial development
Land value appreciation
Areas along the highway corridor may witness increased development activity as connectivity improves over the next few years.
Land Acquisition and Execution Near Completion
According to civic officials, nearly 95% of the required land for the project is already in possession, while the remaining land acquisition is being completed through Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).
Authorities are expected to begin construction work soon following final tender and execution processes.
Maharashtra’s Highway Modernisation Continues
The Nashik–Pune Highway expansion highlights Maharashtra’s continued focus on improving regional connectivity and transportation infrastructure.
As road networks continue expanding across the state, projects like this are expected to strengthen economic activity, improve commuter mobility, and support long-term urban and industrial growth.
