Thane's Biggest Metro Transformation Moves Forward
Thane is set for a major transformation in urban mobility with the proposed Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, a ₹12,200-crore infrastructure initiative designed to connect key residential, commercial and transit hubs across the city.
The ambitious metro corridor will stretch approximately 29.1 km and feature 22 stations, including 20 elevated stations and two underground stations. The project is expected to create a faster and more efficient public transport network while connecting several areas that currently face limited direct access to the city's railway and metro infrastructure.
A crucial regulatory milestone has also been achieved, with the project receiving Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance, moving it closer to the next stages of implementation.

The two underground stations at Old Thane and New Thane railway stations are particularly significant, as they are expected to strengthen connections between the metro network and the city's existing suburban rail system.
The project is also planned to function as an important feeder to other metro corridors, helping passengers connect with Metro Line 4 and Metro Line 5 and creating a more integrated public transport ecosystem.
