In a remarkable early achievement, Adani Group-backed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has crossed the significant milestone of handling over 1 lakh passengers within just 19 days of commencing commercial flight operations. This rapid passenger uptake reflects strong travel demand from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and India’s growing aviation market.

Strong Start to Commercial Operations

Since launching commercial services on December 25, 2025, NMIA has seen robust passenger traffic. As of January 12, 2026, the airport processed 1,09,917 passengers — including 55,934 arrivals and 53,983 departures — highlighting healthy utilisation right from the start.

January 10 stood out as the busiest single day, with 7,345 flyers passing through the airport, underscoring how quickly NMIA is gaining traction among travellers.

Operational Performance & Connectivity

In addition to passenger numbers, NMIA has managed 734 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), including flights by both scheduled carriers and general aviation services. The airport also processed more than 79,000 baggage items and handled 22.21 tonnes of cargo in its opening weeks, reflecting efficient operations across both passenger and freight segments.

Top travel sectors during the period included key routes between Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru, affirming strong regional connectivity from the new aviation hub.

Capacity & Future Potential ( Adani-Owned Navi Mumbai Airport Crosses 1 Lakh Passengers in Just 19 Days )

Designed with an initial annual capacity of 20 million passengers, NMIA aims to significantly ease pressure on Mumbai’s existing airport infrastructure and support the region’s long-term economic growth. With modern facilities and a focus on operational efficiency, the airport is poised to become a major gateway for both domestic and international travellers.

Industry experts say this early milestone not only represents growing traveller confidence but also signals a strong start for Navi Mumbai’s aviation ecosystem, including future expansion plans and broader real estate and economic development in the surrounding region.
