Navi Mumbai — Marking a major milestone in India’s aviation landscape, Akasa Air has officially announced the commencement of commercial flights from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) starting 25 December 2025. The update, shared through an announcement on X.com, confirms that the airline will operate direct flights connecting Navi Mumbai with Delhi, Goa, Kochi, and Ahmedabad.
This development positions NMI as a new gateway for domestic connectivity and represents a significant step in decentralizing Mumbai’s heavy air traffic load.
First Set of Flights to Take Off on December 25
Akasa Air will launch inaugural services on Christmas Day with two special flights:
Delhi → NMI → Delhi
Timings: Early morning departures and returns within the same day
Frequency: Only on 25th December, marking the ceremonial start of operations
From 26 December onward, Akasa Air will expand to a daily and weekly schedule, offering consistent connectivity across key routes.

Based on the airline’s official release, the route map includes:
Daily flights to Delhi from 26 December
Daily and all-days-except-Wednesday flights to Goa
Friday & Saturday frequency flights connecting Kochi
Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday flights on return sectors from Kochi
A Wednesday-only service to Ahmedabad starting 31 December
These flights mark the first set of commercial operations from the highly anticipated Navi Mumbai airport, which will serve as a multi-runway, multi-terminal aviation hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
What This Means for Navi Mumbai
For the MMR region, the launch of flights from NMI is a breakthrough moment. The new airport is expected to:
Reduce load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA)
Boost tourism and business travel
Enhance real estate attractiveness in Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Ulwe, Dronagiri, Kharghar, Taloja and surrounding growth corridors
Strengthen east–west and north–south connectivity across the region
With Akasa Air being the first airline to officially publish its operational schedule, industry experts believe other carriers will follow soon.
A Landmark Beginning ( Akasa Air )
The inauguration of flight services from Navi Mumbai International Airport marks the beginning of a new aviation era for the city. As the airport prepares for its first commercial movements, NMI is set to become one of India’s most important aviation hubs in the coming decade.
