The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued a serious safety warning after identifying 33 buildings and structures as “extremely dangerous” under the C-1 category for 2026–27. The civic body has urged residents, occupants and other users of these structures to vacate immediately to avoid the risk of accidents and potential loss of life.

The public notice was issued by the NMMC Encroachment Department and was signed by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde on August 1, 2026. The civic body has also warned that continued occupation could result in the disconnection of essential services, including electricity and water supply.

C-1 Buildings Considered Unfit for Occupation

Buildings classified under the C-1 category are considered highly dangerous and unsuitable for continued occupation. NMMC has directed owners and occupants to immediately stop residential or commercial use of the identified structures and take steps towards demolition wherever required.

The warning comes at a crucial time during the monsoon, when prolonged rainfall can increase structural risks in old or weakened buildings. NMMC has made it clear that residents should not ignore the evacuation notices.

The civic body's notice also states that it would not be responsible for loss of life or property resulting from continued occupation of a structure identified as dangerous.

Dangerous Buildings Spread Across Key Navi Mumbai Areas

In the Belapur division, the identified structures include Shri Ganesh Cooperative Housing Society in Sector 28, Nerul, Nitin Smruti in Agroli village and White House Cooperative Housing Society in Sector 21, Nerul East.

The Nerul division includes Panchsheel Apartment Owners Association in Sector 1A, Cosmopolitan Society-II “Punit Park” in Sector 17 and Shivneri Cooperative Housing Society in Sector 3.

Several structures have also been identified in Vashi and Turbhe, including housing societies in Sector 9, Sector 9A, Sector 15 and Sector 26, as well as the Kanda Batata Market in Sector 18, Turbhe.

Structural Safety Becomes a Major Concern

The NMMC action highlights the importance of structural safety, particularly for older buildings. Earlier civic surveys had also identified hundreds of buildings across Navi Mumbai requiring different levels of intervention, ranging from immediate evacuation to major or minor repairs.
