Navi Mumbai International Airport Nears Commercial Launch. In a major milestone for Indian aviation, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has successfully completed extensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials, preparing the new airport for its commercial opening on 25 December 2025. 🛫 Rigorous Tests for Passenger-Ready Operations
Over the past year, NMIA conducted nearly twice-weekly trial exercises involving staff and volunteers to mimic real passenger journeys. These exercises tested:
Check-in and security screening systems
Baggage handling and sorting
Boarding procedures and queuing
Emergency responses and contingency challenges
Scenarios included misplaced documents, oversized luggage, and flight delays to ensure preparedness for real-world conditions. At peak times, more than 1,300 operational issues were identified and resolved — a testament to the airport’s thorough readiness process. The Times of India
