NMIA Takes a Major Step Towards Becoming a Global Cargo Hub

The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has reached another major milestone with the arrival of its first international freighter from Hong Kong, marking a significant expansion of its cargo operations and strengthening Navi Mumbai’s position on the global logistics map.


The Hong Kong Air Cargo-operated aircraft arrived from Hong Kong, launching a new international cargo connection for the airport. The airline is scheduled to operate three services per week between Hong Kong and Navi Mumbai, creating six weekly cargo movements. The service will use an Airbus A330-200F freighter capable of carrying approximately 60 tonnes of import and export cargo, Navi Mumbai Int l Airport welcomes first foreign freighter cargo.

13 New Freighter Services on the Horizon

The Hong Kong service is part of NMIA’s broader international cargo expansion. The airport is preparing for 13 new freighter services, connecting Navi Mumbai with important markets across Asia, Europe and West Asia.


The planned network includes destinations such as Hong Kong, Chengdu, Bangkok, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Dubai, Amsterdam, Bahrain, Paris and Riyadh.


This expanding network could provide exporters and importers with faster access to international markets while strengthening Maharashtra’s air-freight infrastructure.

From Passenger Airport to Logistics Powerhouse

NMIA’s cargo journey has already gathered momentum. The airport launched its first international passenger service to Abu Dhabi on July 15, followed by its first dedicated international freighter service—IndiGo Cargo to Sharjah on August 1, carrying around 20 tonnes of goods.


With international cargo operators increasingly choosing NMIA, the airport is positioning itself as a strategic gateway for trade, logistics and supply-chain activity across Western India.
