In a major boost to public transport connectivity, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has launched a dedicated air-conditioned (AC) bus service to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). This marks the first official public transport link connecting the airport with key nodes across Navi Mumbai.
The newly introduced service operates on five strategically planned routes, offering direct connectivity from Belapur, Nerul, Targhar, Kharkopar, and Khandeshwar railway stations to the airport terminal. The initiative is aimed at ensuring smooth last-mile connectivity for passengers travelling via suburban trains, reducing reliance on private taxis and cabs.
Operations began early morning, with buses running from 6:00 AM onwards. A fleet of 14 AC buses has been deployed in the initial phase, maintaining frequencies of 17 to 22 minutes depending on the route. The distance between railway stations and the airport ranges from 1.5 km to 6 km, making the service both time-efficient and convenient.
Officials stated that the bus service will be expanded gradually based on passenger demand and flight operations. At present, shuttle services are aligned with normal flight timings and will scale up further as airport activity increases.
The launch of this dedicated AC bus service significantly strengthens the airport’s transport ecosystem. With suburban stations like Targhar and Gavhan already operational and now supported by direct bus connectivity, NMIA is steadily emerging as a well-integrated, commuter-friendly aviation hub.
As Navi Mumbai prepares for increased air traffic and regional growth, initiatives like this underline the city’s focus on sustainable mobility, passenger convenience, and seamless urban connectivity NMMT Launches Dedicated AC Bus Service to Navi Mumbai International Airport.
