The much-awaited Navi Mumbai Coastal Road, a vital urban link connecting the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) to Atal Setu and CBD Belapur, is fast emerging as one of Maharashtra’s most ambitious infrastructure corridors. As of October 2025, construction is progressing steadily under the supervision of CIDCO, with a target completion date of 2027.
The project spans approximately 7 kilometres, featuring a 3+3 lane freeway designed to provide seamless airport access and reduce congestion on the Sion–Panvel and Palm Beach Road corridors. Of the total stretch, 1.2 km will be at grade while 5.8 km will be elevated, running through the fast-developing Ulwe region. Estimated investment currently stands at over ₹700 crore.

Boost to Regional Connectivity ( Navi Mumbai Coastal Road Project )
Once operational, the freeway will directly connect Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link) with NMIA and CBD Belapur, offering faster connectivity between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai Aerocity business zone. The project is part of the larger CIDCO Coastal Connectivity Plan, which also includes the upcoming Kharghar–Belapur Coastal Road.
Officials have confirmed that the Navi Mumbai Coastal Road will significantly reduce travel time from Belapur to NMIA to less than 15 minutes. The project is designed with international-grade infrastructure, including elevated viaducts, robust drainage systems, and LED-lit service roads for smooth traffic flow. Part of Maharashtra’s Mobility Vision 2029
The state government’s Mobility Vision 2029 aims to transform Mumbai and its satellite cities into an integrated transport network where intercity travel takes less than an hour. The Navi Mumbai Coastal Road is one of the strategic connectors supporting this vision, complementing other major initiatives such as the Mumbai Coastal Road, Atal Setu, and the Metro Corridors.
According to CIDCO engineers, nearly 40 percent of foundation and pier work is already completed across Ulwe and Belapur stretches. With tenders for adjoining roads and flyovers floated, progress is expected to accelerate in the coming months.
Challenges Ahead
Despite the momentum, the project faces hurdles typical of coastal infrastructure — including CRZ clearances, mangrove conservation, and land-acquisition delays. However, CIDCO officials maintain that all environmental norms are being followed meticulously, ensuring minimal ecological disruption.
Economic and Urban Impact
Real-estate analysts note that the freeway will unlock massive potential for residential and commercial development in Ulwe, Kharghar, and Belapur. Property demand in these nodes is already seeing an uptick due to NMIA’s impending operations and the promise of smoother connectivity.
When completed, the Navi Mumbai Coastal Road will not just be another highway — it will be a symbol of Navi Mumbai’s transformation into a globally connected, future-ready city.
