A Milestone in India’s Aviation Growth
The airport — a long-anticipated project inaugurated in late 2025 after decades of planning and development — marks a major leap in India’s aviation infrastructure. Located strategically to serve the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, NMIA aims to relieve pressure from India’s busiest airport and transform the region’s connectivity profile.
Designed with an initial annual capacity of 20 million passengers, the airport is poised for expansion with future phases projected to handle up to 90 million travellers annually along with a significant increase in cargo capacity.
Scaling Up for the Future
Industry leaders and airport authorities have highlighted operational efficiency, safety and passenger experience as top priorities as services scale — ensuring that NMIA becomes a world-class aviation hub. Partnerships with major airlines are underway to further expand flight services domestically and internationally.
Moreover, the airport’s modern infrastructure — including advanced passenger amenities and multi-modal connectivity — is expected to create significant jobs and catalyse growth in sectors such as logistics, hospitality and real estate.
