In a major boost to urban transport infrastructure, the Maharashtra government has approved Navi Mumbai’s second metro corridor, nearly 15 years after the project was first proposed. The new Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 will run between Taloja and Khandeshwar, improving connectivity across rapidly growing residential and industrial areas of the city.

The upcoming metro corridor will be 8.15 km long and will be developed with an estimated budget of ₹5,575 crore, significantly higher than the original cost projection made in 2011. The project was recently included in the Maharashtra state budget, giving it the long-awaited financial and administrative approval.

The corridor will feature eight metro stations, connecting key nodes such as:

  • Khandeshwar

  • Sector 10 Kamothe

  • Sector 2E Kalamboli

  • Sector 7E Kalamboli

  • Sector 13 Kalamboli

  • Kasadi

  • MIDC Station 1

This new route will improve internal connectivity in Kamothe, Kalamboli, and Taloja, which are among the fastest-growing residential and industrial hubs in Navi Mumbai, Navi Mumbai’s Second Metro Line Gets Green Signal After 15 Years.

Better Connectivity for Future Infrastructure

The metro corridor is also expected to play a crucial role in linking commuters to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, making travel easier for residents and businesses in the region. Improved metro connectivity will help reduce road congestion and provide faster, more reliable transport options for daily commuters.

Boost to Navi Mumbai’s Urban Development

Urban planners believe the project will support economic growth, real estate development, and industrial expansion in Navi Mumbai. As the city continues to expand, improved metro connectivity is expected to enhance accessibility between key nodes and strengthen public transport infrastructure.

With the government finally approving the long-pending project, the second metro line is expected to become a key milestone in Navi Mumbai’s transportation network, supporting the region’s transformation into one of the fastest-growing urban hubs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
