With commercial operations at NMIA expected imminently, the Central Railway (CR) is gearing up to enhance connectivity on the Nerul/Belapur–Uran corridor. From this month, 10 additional suburban train services will be introduced, and two new railway stations — Targhar and Gavhan — are nearing completion (95–96 %) and set to open soon. Hindustan Times+1
Station Highlights & Connectivity
Targhar Station: Positioned between Belapur and Bamandongri, this station will be the closest rail link to NMIA. It will feature terrace parking, integrated shuttle services, retail spaces, and three platforms. Last-mile connectivity via bus and auto stands is also under preparation. Hindustan Times
Gavhan Station: Located between Kharkopar and Shemtikhar on the corridor, the station will serve the growing Uran belt, enhancing rail access for residents and commuters. Hindustan Times+1
Service Enhancement
The current train services along the 27-km corridor (which sees around 3.30 million daily commuters) are ~40 per day. With the new trains, this will increase to ~50, marking a 50% jump in services. Hindustan Times
The aim is to reduce train intervals: Currently ~60 minutes in peak hours and ~90 minutes off-peak between Nerul and Uran. The revised schedule intends to trim this gap by about 15 minutes on average. Hindustan Times
Why This Matters
With NMIA coming online, the railway upgrade is strategically timed: Targhar station’s proximity to the airport means easier access for airport staff, travellers and ancillary services.
For the real-estate and development sector, improved rail connectivity adds a strong value proposition to residential and commercial projects in the Belapur–Targhar–Uran corridor.
Increased train frequency and new stations help decongest road traffic in the region and support sustainable transit-oriented growth.
What to Watch ( New Rail Boost for Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) Corridor )
Formal inauguration of the new stations was postponed due to the model code of conduct ahead of local body elections. But operations may begin even before official ceremonies. Hindustan Times
Buyers and investors should monitor actual commencement dates, check how their selected projects link to the new stations, and factor in the last-mile connectivity being built around Targhar.
While the infrastructure upgrade is promising, strong demand might drive quicker pricing changes in the region — early engagement could be advantageous.
Bottom line:The roll-out of extra services and new stations on the Belapur–Uran corridor marks a major connectivity milestone for the NMIA region. For residents, commuters and real-estate stakeholders, the period ahead may bring enhanced access, improved transit convenience and value uplift in the area.
