Mumbai is set to witness a historic milestone in Indian aviation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 8, 2025. CIDCO Vice Chairman & Managing Director Vijay Singhal confirmed that PM Modi will land at the airport at 2:40 PM, inspect the terminal building, and address a public meeting at the airport premises ( Navi Mumbai International Airport inauguration )

Spread across a sprawling 1,160 hectares, the airport is designed to be a modern aviation hub with two runways and four interconnected terminals. The state-of-the-art infrastructure aims to handle a staggering nine crore passengers per year, while the cargo handling capacity is projected at 10 lakh tonnes.

Currently, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport handles around 50–55 million passengers annually, but with NMIA, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s combined capacity will soar to 150 million passengers per year after all four phases are completed.

One of the airport’s standout features is its seamless connectivity between terminals. Passengers flying from Terminal 4 (T4) can conveniently check in at Terminal 1 (T1) and travel via driverless, underground Automated People Movers (APM), ensuring smooth and hassle-free transfers.

With world-class infrastructure, high passenger and cargo capacity, and advanced inter-terminal connectivity, Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to transform the aviation landscape of India, making it one of the largest and most modern airports in the country.
