Travel between Thane and Navi Mumbai could soon become faster as the Airoli–Katai Naka elevated road project approaches a major milestone. The project is expected to reduce travel time by approximately 35–40 minutes, offering relief to commuters navigating some of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s busiest roads.

According to The Financial Express, construction has progressed significantly, with the initial phases nearing completion. Once operational, the corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Navi Mumbai, Thane and surrounding areas.

Airoli–Katai Naka Corridor Reaches a Key Milestone

The 12.71-km Airoli–Katai Naka corridor is being developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The project includes elevated roads and twin tunnels through Parsik Hill, designed to help vehicles bypass congested junctions.

A major construction milestone was achieved with the installation of curved steel girders at Bharat Bijlee Junction in Airoli. These structures will facilitate traffic movement between Thane–Belapur Road and the elevated corridor.

The first two phases, covering approximately 6 km, are nearing completion, while the final phase is targeted for completion by October 2028.

How the Project Will Improve Connectivity

The new corridor is designed to provide a more direct route between Airoli, Thane, Katai Naka and the wider Kalyan–Shilphata region.

By reducing dependence on congested road sections, the project could improve daily commuting for working professionals and facilitate smoother movement between residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres and industrial areas.

The expected travel-time savings will depend on traffic conditions and the operational stretches available to motorists.

What Does This Mean for Navi Mumbai Real Estate?

Improved road connectivity can influence homebuyer preferences by making previously less accessible locations more convenient for daily travel.

Areas such as Airoli, Ghansoli and Rabale could attract greater attention from homebuyers who commute across the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Better regional connectivity may also support commercial activity and improve access to employment hubs.

However, property prices and investment potential depend on several factors, including local infrastructure, amenities, existing demand and project completion timelines.

A Step Towards Better Regional Connectivity

The Airoli–Katai Naka project represents another important infrastructure development for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. As construction advances, commuters and property buyers will be watching for the opening of the initial stretches and progress on the remaining corridor.

Once operational, the project could make travel between Thane and Navi Mumbai more convenient while strengthening connectivity across the region, Thane–Navi Mumbai travel time to cut by 40 mins as Airoli–Katai Naka flyover nears opening.
