SCLR Phase 2 Inaugurated Mumbai Gets Faster East–West Connectivity
Mumbai’s east–west connectivity has received a major boost with the inauguration of Phase 2 of the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road (SCLR). The final 1.40-km elevated stretch between Bharat Nagar Road and Vakola Junction completes a crucial missing link in Mumbai’s integrated road network.
A 1.40-Km Link That Could Save 35 Minutes
The newly opened elevated corridor is designed to provide a direct connection between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the Western Express Highway (WEH), helping motorists avoid several congestion-prone junctions around Kalina, Vakola and Kalanagar.
According to MMRDA, the project is expected to reduce travel time by around 35 minutes, offering a faster and more seamless commute between Mumbai’s eastern and western corridors, SCLR Phase 2 Inaugurated Mumbai Gets Faster East–West Connectivity.
The final stretch forms part of the larger SCLR integrated network, connecting key routes towards the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), BKC and Western Express Highway. The completed network is designed to strengthen signal-free east–west movement across the city.
Eight Flyovers Strengthen the Network
The SCLR system brings together multiple elevated structures, flyovers and connectors to create a more integrated mobility corridor. Its strategic importance comes from its ability to connect major commercial and residential zones while improving access to BKC and surrounding areas.
The project was planned under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP) to address growing traffic pressure around BKC, one of Mumbai’s most important business districts.
